The 19th Commencement Ceremony was held at Hyoam Chapel on February 17, 2017. 3,000 participants attended including the President of Pohang City Christian Council, Sangjin Lim; the Handong Global University Alumni Association President , Yoogang Choi; the Leader of the Graduate School of International Management, Muwhan Oh; graduates, parents, and professors.
There were many facets to the ceremony. It began with prayers, a sermon, the progress of academic affairs, congratulatory remarks by the President, the conferring certificates, the presentation of prizes, greetings from graduates, and it ended with the benediction.
In his prayer, the Dean of the Admissions Department, Shinik Kang said, “Every graduate here today will depart from Handong Global University. Now is the time to make a new start based on the spirit of honesty, diligence, and a servant attitude toward neighbors that was learned at our school. Please pray for the graduates to embody the spirit of Handong wherever they go from here.”
Pastor Junghoon Choi shared a message from the word of God, ‘The Message of God and the Meaning of Life’.
During the certificate conferring event, all the graduates were on the platform and they received a diploma in front of their professors, parents, and distinguished guests. HGU nurtured 848 bachelors, 142 masters, and three doctorates.
In the graduation ceremony, President Chang said, “I hope that graduates will have a heart to love their neighbors and resolve the needs of their neighbors. I will support you and pray that all of you will be wise members of Handong Global University based on what you have learned, your attitudes and your problem-resolving competency.”

Isaac Baek said, “Dear graduates, I hope that all of us will be the people of Handong who implement changes based on what we have learned. Let’s take the roles of light and salt to change the world with honesty, diligence, and love. Also, I look forward to our juniors growing by enjoying the grace and blessings of God. We can follow the life of Jesus and become just like Him not by neglecting all the scars of the world.”
Handong Global University has nurtured 11,316 bachelors, 1,661 masters and seven doctorates since after its establishment in 1995.
