On January 23, 2017, President Soon-Heung Chang of Handong Global University visited LeTourneau University, Texas, in the U.S to sign an agreement on the development of as aviation cooperative program and the establishment of the LeTourneau Global Strategic Office.
The ceremony included eight related people including President Soon-Heung Chang, President Dale Lunsford, and related staff of both schools.
This agreement opens the discussion for development of the joint program on aviation expertise and the training of pilots. The Air Transport Department of LeTourneau University operates related major courses such as Aviation Navigation, Air Traffic Control, and Aircraft Repair. LeTourneau nurtures many aviation experts using school owned airfield. Therefore, it is expected that students of Handong can earn aviation related degrees at LeTourneau University through the joint program. This will open the career paths for aviation experts, aviation mechanics, pilots, and aviation operating managers.
LeTourneau University will dispatch staff to begin the LeTourneau Global Strategic Office at Handong Global University, manage exchange professors and students of LeTourneau University, advertise LeTourneau University in Korea, provide administrative support to the dispatched professors and students of Handong Global University, and develop various joint cooperative programs.
After the agreement ceremony, President Chang visited the airfield of LeTourneau University and learned about the major courses and curriculum. He also visited the School of Nursing and the School of Mechanics. There was a discussion og cooperative measures between the schools.
President Chang said, “LeTourneau University offers excellent majors and courses based on the Christian faith. Their school nurtures excellent aviation experts through high level aviation education. Aviation related majors make it possible to act as professionals in various fields. This is a prosperous major that guarantees high employment in the U.S. at this time. This agreement will be a good opportunity for Handong Global University to bring varied majors and higher employment opportunities to its students. “
Both LeTourneau University and Handong Global University signed a mutual exchange agreement in 2002. The student and professor exchange has been actively implemented up to this day. According to the ‘US Teacher Certification Program’ Agreement signed in 2010, a program to earn Teacher Certification in the state of Texas by completing the program provided by the LeTourneau University during a specified period of time after graduation, is also on going.
