The 2nd Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training in Pokhara, Nepal Was Successfully Completed.

For five days from January 16 to 20, Handong Global University hosted the 2nd Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training with nine selected teams. Each team included professors and students of Pokhara and neighboring universities. Selections were made based on the proposals of Research & Business Development.

 

The training program was prepared by Nepal Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship Center, (NITEC) as part of the Science and Technology Supportive Project by the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning of Korea. The goal was local community development in Nepal through appropriate technology based start-ups for university students and local citizens.

 

The nine participating teams  had a time to improve and implement their business ideas for  R&BD . In the final presentation, the first prize was given to a team who proposed an agro-products supply service development project using an IT platform. The second prize was given to a team who developed a product processing and producing technology system using Lokta paper. The third prize was given to a team developing a second hand products trading and a donations platform. The first prize winners were highly praised for their idea to enhance producers’ income by preventing excessive distribution commissions and contributing to self-reliance of local people through profit creation. In addition, the second prize winners were recognized as one of the leading projects to revitalize the on-line market by developing a new concept of online platforms such as second hand trading and donations in Nepal.

 

Based on the  business ideas, each team will draft their final R&BD proposal and will submit the proposal to Handong Global University. The submitted proposals will be reviewed by professors of Handong Global University. The final  team selected will implement their project. In particular, the required technologies will be further developed through local researchers in universities, and World Friends Korea- TPC.

 

In the 2nd Training, the participants were extended from Pokhara University to Pokhara Engineering College and Gandaki College of Engineering and Science.All the proposals of R&BD, Research & Business Development were registered in advance. Through evaluations, final nine teams of 31 participants were selected for the training. Among them, 24 participants received the completion of training certificate.

 

In this training, professors of HGU including Professor Yoonsik Han, of the School of Computers and Electronics of Handong Global University, and the social enterprise, the Bridge were the major lecturers. During the 1st Training, the Business Model Canvas was the main focus. However, ‘Problem Definition’, ‘Analyzation of Project Feasibility’, ‘Complementation of Products and Services’, ‘Development of Product Technology’ also were addressed. In the later part of the workshop, through lectures on the ‘Business Model Canvas’, each team analyzed their proposal and delivered their final presentation.

 

The Green Appropriate Technology Research Center of Handong Global University, the host of this project, is continuously implementing  supportive projects for developing countries through various projects and appropriate technology.
