Beginning in March, Dr. Jiseon Lee, an icon of hope in this era, will stand on the platform as a professor of Counselling Psychology and Social Welfare.
In July 2000, Dr. Jiseon Lee had a car accident. It was caused by a binge drinker. She received third-degree burns all over her body. After thirty surgeries and rehabilitation treatments, she found her life was like a miracle. She received her master’s degree in Social Welfare at Columbia University in 2010 and her doctoral degree at UCLA last June.
Dr. Lee researched the effect of contact between the physically challenged and ordinary people and the perspective change that occurs from this contact. She unveiled that “Laws to prevent discrimination and provide opportunities for the physically challenged are enacted but still we have negative perceptions regarding them. In order to have an effect on the law, a perspective change is required.”
Also, she added, “I am so glad and happy that I can serve as a Professor of Handong Global University where many people desire to attend. I would like to share my gifts from God with the students of HGU.”
President Soon-Heung Chang of HGU met Dr. Lee during his business trip to LA, last July. His great impression of her was her hope and desire to serve even with her difficulties and hardships.
President Chang said, “It is honor and pleasure to hire Dr. Lee as a Professor of HGU. Our school will do its best to give warm hope and encouragement to never give up.”
President Chang added that ”HGU is putting effort into nurturing talents in the fields of human character, intelligence, and spirituality. The goal is to move forward to nurture the wisest talents who can resolve the problems of neighboring societies, countries, and the world. I look forward to the contributions that will be made by Dr. Lee as a good stepping stone to nurture the wisest and happiest talents. “
