On December 27, the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of HGU signed an agreement with Pohang Techno Park and Pohang Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources. The agreement provides for utilization of local specialized geoscience and mineral resources. This will create the sixth local industrialization endeavor. The signing took place at the Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources.

Thirty participants attended the ceremony. Dean Jaeyoung Lee, Director Keehong Kim, and Director Seungphil Kim were part of the group.

Each institution mutually agreed to cooperate in the development of specialized commercial geoscience and mineral resources in the local area. They will also develop customized technology for current issues locally. Development and promotion of local projects will occur along with exchanges of human resources in research and technology. There will be joint utilization of research and technology development facilities.

Dean Jaeyoung Lee said, “Handong Global University will utilize local specialized mineral resources to replace imported mineral resources in medicine, energy and environment.”

Director Keehong Kim said, “This agreement will serve as an opportunity to respond from many directions: academy, industry, research, and government, to nurture local industry. Local mineral resources, research and development will support local business. By creating a new commercial foundation local  mineral resources are expected to create a new growth engine.”

Director Seungphil Kim said, “In order to develop local mineral resources that are distributed in Gyeongbuk and Pohang as a future growth engine, cooperation across academics, industry, and research fields are essential. This agreement will allow for government contributions to develop a research institute, and a local research hub center. The local governments will cooperate to create future food from local mineral resources.”
