The Center for International Area Studies
The purpose of the Research Institute is to investigate various regions of the world to quantify the substance and nature of those places. This research contributes to Korean local area development and increases mutual cooperation and peaceful development in the area through various academic and cultural exchange activities. In addition, the research aids in-school appreciation of the area through systematic and academic research, providing theoretical and practical grounds for research to attain practical globalization and the advancement of academic research capability, ultimately to answer the Great Commission.
Handong Research Institute of Management and Economics (HRIME)
The purpose of HRIME is national policy research, future oriented web-based telecommunication service model research, and management information system model research, ultimately to revitalize the free-market economy. The Institute projects include a focus on broadcast policy advancement research, introduction measures for competitive media-lab implementation, corporate information management systems design and construction, overseas IT training volunteer services planning and volunteer dispatches.
Institute of Advanced Machine Technology
The Institute specialises in the field of Mechatronics, which is rapidly becoming the core technology of 21st century industry. With Circuit Design Technology, Software and other Control Algorithm Technology added to Mechanical Engineering, the Institute is developing Mechanics and Control Systems suitable for tomorrow’s industrial technology.
Environmental and Construction Research Institute
The Institute contributes to technological advancement of construction and city planning operations, and develops homeland and local communities through problem identification and comprehensive solution generation to prevent environmental deterioration due to indiscriminate construction work. The Institute’s main research areas include construction technology development, city and environmental planning, environmental impact assessment, and water resources research.
Global Green Research Institute
The Institute produces nano-scale core technologies through international research institutions as part of the ongoing effort to overcome the 21st century’s global economic crisis and achieve sustainable economic growth. Research and projects are conducted with the purpose of education and propagation of a future green society and its culture, comprised of future sources of clean energy and enhanced environmental technologies.
Global Culture Contents Research Institute
With the emergence of the 21st century Age of Culture, the Institute seeks to realise general cultural satisfaction and cultural democracy: The concrete educational approaches to the field of cultural arts include; research into theoretical and practical applications; development of innovative holistic education through the cultural arts; fostering of Christian talent in the cultural arts; discovery and development of Korean indigenous and traditional cultural arts; and education of children and adolescents in cultural arts.
Design Research Institute
The Institution establishes design environments and policies responsive to the demands of visual and product design for accurate responses to the ever-changing environment and information of the information age. Emphasis is placed on basic research, industry-academic projects, and education system development, allowing undergraduate students to take part in research for hands-on experience.
Institute of Life Science
The purpose of the Institute is to contribute to academic advancement of basic applications in the field and improvement of national health. The Institute provides the foundations for development of the national food industry and ultimately for national economic growth. By acquiring world-class technology it leads the development of the industry’s functional foods, and food safety areas. Furthermore, the Institute provides students with an opportunity to experiment and practice, adding pragmatic content. Projects include basic research into biomedical related fields, new organic material development, harmful causes identification and evaluation technology for stability retention.
Information Communications Institute
With the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at its center, approximately 12 professors in teams at the Institute actively research IC for wireless communications, Data Comm., Medical Information Systems, Multimedia and AI technology, which are all core technological aspects necessary for the 21st century information age. Students are encouraged to participate in the activities, and are given opportunities to experience cutting edge technology research.
Institute of Tent-making Mission
The main objective of the Institute of Tent-making Mission is to uncover and train potential missionaries for future professional-tentmaker mission. To this end, projects include academic and service projects, program organization and support for Handong faculty and students to find their calling, exchange and cooperation projects to foster tentmakers in Korea, exchange and cooperation projects with government and civilian bodies of various nations, as well as the collection and sharing of information related to Tent-making Missions.
Creation Science Research Institute
Handong Global University’s Creation Science Research Institute takes a hard scientific approach to the Lord’s created order. The Institute is a general creationist science research institute which focuses on substantiating evidence of Biblical facts, scientific criticism of the naturalistic theory of evolution, and establishing the Christian standpoints toward natural science and philosophy of science.
Institute of Learning and Faith
The Institute seeks to develop life observations and academics from a Christian Worldview, and uses research projects for the purpose of fostering the establishment and development of Christian academics. Projects involve providing Handong faculty with a program to aid the answering of their calling to be Christian educators. The Institute also provides networking with Korean and foreign Christian scholars to establish and extend Christian academics.
Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (IEI)
The Institute contributes to the development of the IT industry both in domestic and overseas businesses, through a variety of research into, and consultation in the field of domestic Business Incubation. To that end, the Institute is involved in market defense theory research and consulting, government IT and communications and global IT policy consultation, faculty and student startup business support policy development, seek cooperation with general industry and international investment institutions, and venture business support development.
Green Appropriate Technology Research Cooperation Center
In line with the 21st century information age and technology hegemony, the Center delivers advancements in geographic information systems and technological transfer through education. Comprehensive utilization of information is essential for development. As one of the most popular types of technology in recent years, the Institute will achieve competitive levels on the global stage.
East-Sea Rim Research Institute of Economy and Culture (ESRI)
The institute values the development of the greater Pohang area and neighboring community. Furthermore, data research, policy research, hosting symposiums both domestic and foreign, is the groundwork to exchange and cooperate with East Sea Rim Area nations and locations as a priority. Interests include development policies and related research for Pohang City’s goal of establishing itself as a cutting edge technology, globally aware, environmentally-friendly city. In the long term, ESRI will also provide cooperation models in relation to other regions of Kyungbuk Province, Japan, China, Russia, and North Korea. The priority research areas of ESRI are International relations and trade, logistics, regional studies and development, industrial policies, culture and tourism.
East-Sea Rim Research Institute of Ocean and Fisheries
The Institute is an all-around marine institute with research into marine biological resources, marine biology, potential future resources, ocean development and pollution prevention, as well as design and management consulting for greater added value in the marine industry. In step with the 21st century development strategy to establish Korea as a maritime power, the Institute’s goal is to achieve industry-academic cooperation and human resource development through interdisciplinary research approached from a differentiated academic research system.
Counseling Center
The Counseling Center provides counseling for students and faculty members (individual, group). The Center provides psychological tests, counseling for victims of abuse, and instruction in educational training workshops, lectures, and symposiums. It also provides support to faculty in their interaction with students for counseling or guidance. Projects involve counseling method development and research, studies into student life and improvement plans, and various publications concerning student life.
Innovation Center for Engineering Education (ICEE)
ICEE provides sustained growth for Engineering graduates to seek God’s Kingdom in their area of expertise. To this end, ICEE provides outstanding world class engineering education through Handong University’s innovative engineering curriculum and systems. Important projects include the planning and evaluation of Handong Engineering Education Innovation, Certification by the ABEEK and maintenance of certification and other projects necessary to serve the Center’s purpose.
Handong Education Development Center
With respect to Handong Global University as a whole-person educational institution approaching education from both the intellectual, spiritual, and character building aspects, HEDC seeks to support the University in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: retreat planning and implementation to achieve HGU’s vision and goals; seminars, workshops; lectures to support teaching and learning methodology and development, education-related research projects; and teaching and learning-related research support, orientation and newcomer’s training for part-time lecturers and new professors; and enrichment programs to stimulate commitment among the professors'; identity strengthening; educational support for minority students (foreign students and students with disabilities or other special needs); technical support; development of needed educational materials; professional staff support for effective teaching and learning practices; specialized human resources and support as part of comprehensive support in education, teaching and learning support for students with disabilities, as well as understanding and assistance programs for the disabled.
Shalom Center (Center against Sexual Violence)
Shalom Center (Center against Sexual Violence) offers professional support towards establishing a healthy dating culture in Handong Global University, along with processing and consulting on sexual assault and harassment cases on campus, in addition to establishing policies, launching preventative activities and education geared to fostering a healthy sexual culture. Also, the Center offers educational programs and activities to prevent domestic violence and prostitution.
