<Gregory J. Elzinga, President of Calvin University>
Handong Global University (President Dosoung Choi), in celebration of its 30th anniversary, will confer an honorary Doctor of Law degree upon President Gregory J. Elzinga of Calvin University during the upcoming INCHE (International Network for Christian Higher Education) Asia–Oceania Conference, to be held on November 24, 2025, at Handong’s Pohang campus.
This honor recognizes President Elzinga’s outstanding leadership in advancing Christian higher education, his lifelong commitment to ethical governance, justice, and reconciliation, and his vision for strengthening Christian universities globally. He has been commended for his efforts in promoting international economic justice, peace mediation, and the renewal of human culture through faith-informed education.
President Elzinga earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication and later completed an MBA, combining academic training with practical expertise in organizational leadership and administration. Before becoming the 13th President of Calvin University, he served in diverse leadership roles in higher education and nonprofit organizations, where he strengthened institutions, mentored future leaders, and fostered global partnerships.
Since his appointment as President of Calvin University, Elzinga has emphasized the integration of faith and learning, equipping students to be agents of renewal in a rapidly changing world. Under his leadership, Calvin has continued to deepen its historic mission while also responding to contemporary challenges in higher education.
Elzinga’s presidency has also been marked by a strong commitment to international collaboration. His leadership has played a key role in strengthening partnerships among Christian universities worldwide, and his vision aligns with Handong’s mission of training global leaders to build God’s Kingdom through Christian higher education.
The conferral of the honorary doctorate at Handong’s 30th anniversary is therefore both a recognition of President Elzinga’s contributions and a reaffirmation of the growing friendship between Calvin University and Handong Global University.
About the INCHE Conference
The INCHE Asia–Oceania Conference 2025, hosted by Handong from November 24–26, 2025, will bring together Christian scholars and university leaders from across the region under the theme “Holistic Intelligence in Higher Education: A New Paradigm in the AI Era.” This event not only celebrates Handong’s 30th anniversary but also marks the 50th anniversary of the International Network for Christian Higher Education (INCHE).
