Handong Global University (President Do-Soung Choi) UNESCO UNITWIN Project Group held the 2023 UNESCO UNITWIN Design Sprint Camp for undergraduate and graduate students at The K Hotel in Gyeongju from August 17th to 20th.

In this camp, about 50 students from 17 countries participated, including African regions such as Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, and Asian regions such as Mongolia, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan. Participants learn about Google Venture’s problem-solving framework, ‘Design Sprint’, and plan startup items that can bring about social innovation. The Design Sprint Camp is characterized by experiencing the process of developing a high-potential startup item in a short period of time by going through specific planning, prototyping, and user testing.

Professor Cho, Sung-Bae of the School of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering at Handong Global University, who was in charge of education and student guidance, expressed his expectations and said, “Design Sprint goes beyond simply presenting startup ideas, helping to find methodologies that actually solve the problem. Through this experience, we hope that students will be able to find solutions to various social problems they face in their home countries and have the skills necessary to turn their ideas into reality.”

Peter Dente Wisaka, a student from Ghana who participated in the camp, said, “Through this Design Sprint and the previous UNITWIN program, I gained not only knowledge related to entrepreneurship but also valuable experience in solving local problems and contributing to sustainable development in my home country using ICT technology”, “I’m really grateful”, he said, sharing his thoughts.
