The 2nd Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training was hosted with nine teams. These38 professors and students met together for training at Pokhara University, Nepal on January 16 to 20.
The training program was hosted by the Nepal Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship Center, NITEC, as part of the Science and Technology Supportive Project by the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning of Korea. The goal was local community development in Nepal through appropriate technology based start-ups for university students and local citizens. In particular, the required technology introduced during the workshop will be further developed through local researchers in universities, and the World Friends Korea- TPC.
In the 2nd Training, the participants were extended compared to the 1st Training. Proposals of Research & Business Development (R&BD) were registered in advance. Through evaluations, the final nine teams were selected including five teams from Pokhara University, one team from Pokhara Engineering College, and three teams from Gandaki College of Engineering and Science.
The R&BD items of the nine teams were: the production and processing of handmade paper project, an automatic system of mushroom cultivation development project, tea development using the Himalayan hub to prevent obesity, a Ricksahw development project based on sunlight, a sunlight motor boat development project, an agro-products supply service development based on IT infrastructure, a guide application for museum and exhibit halls, second hand products trading and donation platforms, and a medical information management application project. NITEC is planning to develop feasible items after revising the projects and seeing their completion.
Professor Yoonsik Han, of the School of Computers and Electronics of Handong Global University, other professors of HGU, and the Bridge, a social enterprise, delivered lectures. ‘Problem Definition’, ‘Analysis of Project Feasibility’, ‘Complementary products and services’, ‘Development of Product Technology’ were delivered. In addition, in the later part of the workshop, ‘A Business Model Canvas’ was delivered. Through the final presentation evaluation, the final team was selected based on their R&BD proposal.
The Green Appropriate Technology Research Center of Handong Global University, the host of this project, is continuously implementing supportive projects for developing countries using appropriate technology.
