Pohang City Children Canteen Management Supporting Center
Ten members of the steering committee, including members of Pohang City Council, related government officials of Pohang city, the President of Pohang Kindergarten Union, the Director of Pohang City Childcare Support Center, and Professors of Child Pedagogy suggested various opinions for improving the quality of children’s meals and health . In addition, the results of this year and the future work plan for 2017 were discussed.
The Center specifies and operates the Focus On Consulting Project. The Project analyzes habitats of hidden hazard microorganisms in canteens, judges sanitation conditions based on scientific background, and suggests customized countermeasures.

Improvement changes in microorganism level management of Focus On
Hyunggi Doh, Head of the Center announced the results of microorganisms nurturing APT test six times on knives, dishtowels, refrigerators, sterilizers, and hands. Knife surfaces for cutting vegetable improved 33.8% from cautions and warnings. The knife hilts were 43.9% cleaner based on safety from cautions and warnings about proper washing, disinfection, and storage methods guidance.
10,225 children received training at the education center. According to statistics related to the educational effectiveness of improved food safety and health including prevention of picky eating, proper digestion, and food courtesy, 57%, 65%, 61%, 71%, and 63% improved in having balanced meals, eating kimchi, eating vegetables, drinking milk, and eating mixed grains.
The center operates various kinds of programs such as regular monitoring for sanitation and nutrition, inspections for specified microorganisms, IK certification programs, education on children’s dietary life, and cooking classes for parents. 223 child-care centers and kindergartens held training programs in order to improve the level of canteen for infants since 2013.
