Eight o’clock in the morning on December 13, 2016, the school cafeteria was full of students who were trying to have breakfast. Students had final exams but they lined up to receive their breakfast starting early in the morning after hearing the news that breakfast would be offered for free. Followed by the mid exam, ‘Free Breakfast Event with President’ was held.
President Soon-Heung Chang of Handong Global University said, “I prepared a small event for the students of Handong who prepared for exams by reducing their sleep. This is a small event but I wanted to cheer up to those students who experience stress due to exams.”
This event was co-planned by President Chang, Shinsaegae Food, and the Student Union in order to encourage students who are having a difficult time. Professors also joined to this event. All the expenses for this event were paid for by those who did the planning.
Jueun Goh, Director of the Welfare Department of the Student Union, said, “I pray this breakfast has encouraged students. This is a small gift for those who are stressed due to preparing for their exams.”
Manager Soyun Park, of Shinsaegae Food, said, “It was rewarding to provide a good memory when I saw students gathered and ate breakfast together. Recently, the number of students eating breakfast was decreasing. I was worried about the eating habits of the students. I was glad to host this event with the support of President Chang and the Student Union. People say that ‘Good meals keep you healthy’. I hope more students will eat breakfast for their health.”
There were 394 students who had breakfast at the school cafeteria. This was four times higher than the average. According to Eunhee Kim, of the School of Counselling Psychology & Social Welfare, “I used to skip my breakfast. Today I had breakfast thanks to this event. I can receive energy for my exams from this event.”
