Human Character Education Camp program in action.

On December 15, Handong Global University hosted the ‘2016 Human Character Education Camp’ at Shinheung Middle School, Pohang, Korea. This camp was hosted for all the first year classes and students of Shinheung Middle School. This middle school is an exemplary school in educational donation schools.

First of all, there was an introduction by the counselor focused on addictions. The role of the center was explained. Prevention of smart phone, internet, and gambling addictions was targeted for the 1^st year students. The Team Manager Jaewhan Kim, of the Korean Center on Gambling Problems gave these messages.

After this program, students received a special lecture by private educational donors. These donors were retired faculty and counseling experts. Diverse lectures on seven topics were given. Some of the topics were: boosting the self- esteem of youth, reaching out for my dream, self-seeking through art activities, and communication to support human relationships were provided.

According to Haeyoung Lee, a Shinheung Middle School teacher, “I am glad that my students participated in this important human character building educational program. In addition, I am glad that teachers could learn new things through this camp.”

One student who participated in this program said, “It was good to know various methods to love and accept myself through this human character building educational program.”

The Head of the Center Sukhee Jung said, “It is helpful to hold an educational donation program under the theme of human character during the free semester system of Pohang Shinheung Middle School. I hope that students found their dreams through this program. Valuable people participated in this educational donation program.”

Gyeongsang Province Educational Donation Center of Handong Global University was designated as an operational institution of the ‘Regional Center for Educational Donations’ hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity since July 2014. Now educational donation organizations, institutions, and private citizens of Gyeongsang Province are constantly developing and supporting the youth groups in Gyeongsang Province. These young people will benefit by receiving customized educational donation programs.
