From November 6 to 11, Handong Global University hosted the ‘Prayer Request Week’ for North Korea.
Starting from the Intercessory Prayer Week for North Korea, held in 2001, North Korea and unification related organizations of Handong Global University work together every year. In this event, the Unification Academy, the Intercessory Prayer Gathering for North Korea, the Northeast Asia Law Association, Saige, and Nunadri Harmoni worked together. The HGU Unification Association hosted the event.
The Intercessory Prayer Week for North Korea was planned to introduce the reality of life in North Korea, and churches in North Korea to local society. Participants included students, HGU staff, and the faculty of Handong Global University. Various activities were prepared under the theme of unification. These activities included: service, special lectures on unified Korea and the history of unification, the North & South Korea Talk Show, a Concert, and sketches.

Related organizations such as the Intercessory Prayer Meeting for North Korea and the Unification Academy provided booths to introduce food, the experience of famine. Others showed the reality of life in North Korea.
In particular, during the “North and South Korea Talk Show,” North Korean refugees were invited to share their stories regarding North Korea, and their thoughts on unification. The refugees shared various opinions regarding the practical difficulties that North Korea is facing including the differences between North and South Korean life.

The director of this event, Taekyung Lee said, “The goal of this event was to introduce the topic of unification and to call for unification with North Korea. The call was not limited to only a certain group but was given to everyone. Handong Global University has a vision to be the university to prepare South Korea for unification. With this vision in our hearts and minds, I hope that all the members of our community will work together to build a unified generation.”
