-‘Asia Week’ was held for one week from November 12~18

On November 12, Handong Global University hosted ‘Culture Night’ under the theme of ‘Unexplored’ at Hyoam Hall. The Culture Night is an annual event which has been held since 2011. The event serves as a venue to experience various cultures presented by the enrolled international students at Handong Global University.

This year, twelve communities of foreign students from all over the world including Korea, the U.S, Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Russia, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Mongolia prepared fifteen regional foods. Thirteen of the communities showed various performances including traditional dances, and plays.

As of today, at Handong Global University, international students from 59 countries are studying learning and living together. In addition, there are many children of missionaries from mission work areas. This event served as a venue to learn and unite the students regardless of their nationalities, as global citizen. 

Culture night is an event to enjoy varied cultures. It has great significance for both students and the foreign countries. In particular, presentations by the different cultures help people avoid stereotype widely spread in society.

Starting with culture night, for one week up to the 18^th, ‘Asia Week’ was held to provide experiences and exhibition displays. The event was part of support for nurturing global creative innovation talents based on ICT’.

The event was divided into three regions in northern, central and southern areas and display for historical perspectives. Beside, virtual reality experience, traditional clothes display, and photo zone were provided.

Picture displays were exhibited centered on international students and families of the Asian region to introduce the local culture and key figures. Besides making traditional foods, playing traditional games and calligraphy were provided.

Handong Global University is providing events with the goal of globalization. Last September, African week was held. The Office of International Affairs of Handong Global University was designated as the university to implement specialized local university projects by the Ministry of Education in July 2014. The School of Management and Economics, the School of International Studies, Languages & Literature, the Special Environment System Engineering, and the Graduate School of International Cooperation joined and promoted their global talents who will take the lead in globalization and creative innovation.
