Handong Global University Hosted the 2nd Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training in Tanzania

- Handong Global University hosted the Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

 

  - The 1st round workshop out of 4 rounds for local university students who were selected in advance through the idea competition

 

  - Nurtured trained a start-ups team for real start-ups through self-developed business items

 

Handong Global University provided the 2nd Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training from November 14 to 17, 2016, in the United African University of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

 

This program is part of the start-ups item development and technology support project of the UNITWIN Project. HGU is the host university of UNESCO-UNITWIN. The Green Appropriate Technology Research Cooperation Center of Handong Global University (Professor Yoon-sik Han, Chief of the Center) provided the training program. The goal was to develop the regional society of Tanzania through start-ups based on appropriate technology led by university students and local people and dissemination within the business community.

 

This workshop was held for the second time after the workshop in November last year. This time is the first round of workshops out of the 4 rounds. The workshop training program was planned to nurture and support start-up teams so that practical businesses will be possible. Developing and improving technology products through long-term workshops was the goal. The first round workshop targeted establishing project plans. The following 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds of the workshop aims to produce prototypes, test them in the target markets, and create revised, supplemented prototypes and business plans by next November. The workshops will be held on a quarterly basis.

 

In this workshop, thirty-six students of the United African University of Tanzania and other universities located in Dar es Salaam participated. Six professors of the United African University of Tanzania and five social businesses including E3Empower Africa were the lecturers and tutors. In addition, talent were selected for-nurturing by the professors who will preside over the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds of Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training led by the United African University of Tanzania and E3Empower Africa.

 

This workshop consisted of lectures and practice exercises. Some examples were presented including the economic developme6nt and entrepreneurship of Korea, appropriate technology and business, development of business items, canvassing to create a business model, and presentation of a business plan. The four day program provided the required details to draft a business plan that could be actualized through problem conception, selection of business items and a feasibility study of the business.

 

 

 

The host, Green Appropriate Technology Research Cooperation Center of Handong Global University, constantly creates supportive projects for developing countries such as the GEP, the Global Engineering Project; the Global Engagement & Mobilization Project, GEM;, the Engineering Design Academy for 90% of the Marginalized; the Creative Design Competition for 90% of the Marginalized; the UNESCO UNITWIN Program; and the Nepal Innovative Technology Entrepreneurship Center. These programs have been on-going since 2008.

 

※ UNITWIN; University Twining and Networking is a program established in 1992 in order to minimize the knowledge gap and nurture self-reliance within the developing countries by supporting university education and research institutes of developing countries and by networking between advanced and developing countries. Handong Global University was designated as the host university of UNITWIN in 2007.

 

※ UNITWIN Project of Handong Global University is implemented as part of the ODA projects of the Ministry of Education, centered around low income countries categorized by the World Bank. HGU is establishing a hub center within developing countries by signing agreements, strengthening capacity building, nurturing leaders, and promoting regional development projects. As of May 2016, Handong Global University is supporting sixty universities and institutions in 28 countries.

E3Empower is social enterprise of appropriate technology that has a branch in Arusha, Tanzania, Africa. It implements various projects supporting small scale start-ups with various organizations to create jobs for local Africans.
