November 1, 2016, was the 4th Hyungsan River Future Forum. This group leads the Hyungsan River projects with the participation of Pohang and Gyeongju Province.
This forum’s theme was ‘Hyungsan River’s Transparent Waterflow Will Bring the Return of Sweetfish.’ The forum was held at Dongguk University’s Gyeongju Campus. The 300 participants, included: President Soon-Heung Chang of Handong Global University; President Daewon Lee, Dongguk University, Gyeongju Campus; Mayor Yangshik Choi of Gyeonju; Mayor Gangduk lee of Pohang; Dean Sangchurl Kim of Gyeongsangbukdo Future Strategy and Planning; and the staff of Hyungsan River Future Forum.
Greetings were given by co-representatives Daewon Lee and Soon-Heung Chang. Encouraging remarks were given by Mayor Kangduk Lee and Mayor Yangshik Choi. Professor Kook-won Lee of Handong Global University served as the Master of Ceremonies.
Various lectures were presented in the second part. Professor Keejae Ju, from the Department of Life Science of Busan National University delivered a presentation on ‘Restoration of Sustainable Ecological Streams and Stream Management.’ Professor Seukkyu Choi delivered a presentation on ‘Ecology and the Future of the Hyungsan River so the Sweetfish will Return.’
In addition, there was a panel discussion and a comprehensive discussion. Then, an active discussion on ecology restoration followed.
According to Soon-Heung Chang, co-representative of the Hyungsan River Future Forum, “The Hyungsan River that connects Pohang and Gyeongju contains more than 1000 years of Shilla civilization history and sites. It demonstrated how humans and living creatures lived harmoniously.. Our efforts to create a sustainable, clean Hyungsan River where sweetfish will return are desperate to protect this treasure.”
