Last May, alumni Yoosun Back received the ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ that is granted by Iowa State University.
This prize is given to graduate students who have lecture experiences each year. The student must be recommended by professors and individuals. The graduate student is then evaluated and selected based on a letter of recommendation, lecture plans, the results of lecture evaluations and their lecture resume.
Alumni Yoosun Back is in the doctoral degree program. She taught a Human Sexuality online course for second year undergraduate students. She received 4.7 out of 5.0 points in the class evaluations from the students at the end of the semester. Through the evaluation hosted by the Educational Association she was determined as the final prize winner. Given the fact that Asians usually receive prizes in research related field, this prize in the field of lectures is remarkable.
Alumni Yoosun Back entered Handong Global University in 2005 and double majored in Management and Counseling. She graduated in 2009. After graduation she worked at LG Chemical for seven months. She also received a master degree in Child & Family Science at Yeonsei University. In 2013, she entered her Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University and is studying there today.
Alumni Yoosun Back said, “I learned from professors of Handong when they taught in English. What I learned at Handong became a great help when I prepared and taught in Iowa. Such experiences have become models for my teaching and led to receiving this prize.”
