From March of this year, RCY of Handong Global University promoted mentoring for the children of multi-cultural families in this area, fourteen times. Students of RCY implemented volunteer activities with the slogan, ‘Why not change the world?’ despite their busy academic activities and other affairs.

In the first semester of 2016 there were several events.  ‘Icebreaking for a good relationship with a mentor’ was the first event. ‘Clay play to stimulate imagination using the five senses’, was second. The third event was the viewing of the ‘Zootopia Movie”. In the second semester students held three more events. First, there was the ‘Picnic under the Pohang Canal.’ Next there was a ‘Visit and Skating Experience at the Ice Skate Rink.’  

RCY is the abbreviation Red Cross Youth. The ‘University Red Cross Association’ was created by the Korean Red Cross. It has been three years since the establishment of the RCY. During the last three years, RCY was registered as a free program of social volunteer activities. RCY promoted volunteer activities with the approval and fund of School.    

Last summer, children and their mentors joined the ‘RCY Family Love and Hope Sharing Camp.’ This helped the mentors and mentees become closer.

RCY has a wide variety of interests beyond just volunteer activities. The group realizes friendships are unique for these multi-cultural children. The children also have academic problems that are faced by multi-cultural families. RCY is trying their best to support the families by hearing the children’s stories and receiving feedback on mentoring by contacting the parents of the children.

According to Jihee Lee, “RCY is promoting many activities. Each of us learns the joy of love and volunteering. Such activities will be a great help to RCY members and be a great opportunity to reaffirm the mindset of giving, as members of Handong.”
