On October 8, 2016, Handong Global University operated a program titled ‘Growing Your Dream by Experiencing a University Major’ targeting 250 middle school students in 21 middle schools located in Pohang and Gyeongju.
As part of a supportive program for the ‘Contributing University for Normalization of Higher Education’, the event was held with the cooperation of the Pohang District Office of Education in order to support the free semester system of middle school. Nine universities: Handong Global University, Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Keimyung University, Catholic University of Daegu, Daegu Haany University, Semyung University, Andong University, Korea National University of Transportation, and Hannam University prepared this program.
The program was project-based experience activities related to the actual majors. Students could choose two majors of interest to them so they could experience the majors in advance.
The 18 topics that students could select among included: ‘Experiencing virtual reality by using gear 360’, ‘Principles of the automobile learned through a self-made automobile’, ‘Mock court’, and ‘The power of micro-organisms invisibly changing the world’.
According to Duphil Kang, the Dean of Admissions and the Human Resource Office, “I hope we can contribute to the free semester system and help these young people seek their future proactively by experiencing various majors in advance.”
Handong Global University got a grade A, the highest grade in the university structuring reform evaluation results released by the Ministry of Education. HGU was selected as a University for the Creative Korea Project, the Advancement of College Education Project, Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation Project, Supportive Project for Normalization of Higher education, the Prime Project, and the Female Engineering Nurturing Human Talents.
