Granting the Joshua Scholarship…Hoping to Grow the Dream for Missions and Pastoring

-In total of 153 million won was granted to 147 missionary children and children of pastors

 

On September 28, at Chapel Hall, the Joshua Scholarship was granted to 147 students along with training. President Soon-Heung Chang of Handong Global University, the children of pastors and missionary children met together.

 

This scholarship ceremony, had an orientation, an introduction, remarks by the President of HGU, the granting of the scholarships, the introduction of the Joshua Scholarship, major details, and a question and answer session.

 

In his remarks, the President of HGU said, “Missionaries who spread the gospel to the world are achieving many results. They are establishing universities and hospitals not only in domestic areas but also in the world. The roles of the missionaries are followed because their children are also growing to be missionaries like their parents.

 

Also, he added, “20% of our total student body are the children of pastors and missionaries. I hope that students can grow their dreams in mission work and for the pastorate with pride through this scholarships.”

 

In September, Handong Global University initiated the Joshua scholarship by collecting funds to support the children of pastors and missionaries who have difficulties paying their school fees and living expenses.

 

According to Shin-kyeun Kim, the leader of the Foreign Affairs Team, “In fact, children of pastors and missionaries are having more difficulties financially and in other areas compared to the other students. The Joshua Scholarship delivers a message letting them know helping hands are near to them and encouraging them to never give up.”

According to Kyeun Jung, one of the recipients of the Joshua Scholarship, “Before I received the scholarship, I had financial difficulties. It was hard to study and work at the same time. It is my honor and pleasure to receive this scholarship. I will always remember the meaning of Joshua and have appreciation for this scholarship.”

 

Also, Jinseo Park said, “The Joshua Scholarship is granted by God in order to nurture missionaries. I will do my best to study so that the valuable scholarship will not be used in vein.”

 

153 million won was granted to 147 students. Among them, 37 students received their school registration fees, and 110 students received living expenses amounts to 3 million won or 600,000 won. If the students did not take a leave of absence and met the qualifications to receive the scholarship, the students also could receive six million won or 1.2 million won per person per year.

 

In particular, the sponsors and the recipients of the Scholarships will be matched one–on-one. The recipients of the scholarships are to send prayer lists and thank you letters once a month. For those who want to meet together, they can join the meeting event once a year.
