At the ‘2016 Gyeongbuk Science & Robot Festival’, which was held from September 23 to 25, at Pohang Sports Complex, the Foundation Nurturing Converged Talents in Sustainable Energy and the Environment in Gyeongbuk and the Far East Area, at HGU, operated a booth to display information and experience science technology.
The promotion booth introduced the current achievements of the specialized projects being implemented today. In particular, the excellence of converged education in energy and the environment that was implemented by the Foundation, the research achievements of the regional energy and environment companies, the outcomes of the Capstone Competition for strengthening student competency for employment and start-ups, the model of successful internships, the converged research connected with the curriculum, and supporting examples from various clubs, were introduced.

In the booth, visitors experienced the new science technology of ‘fuel rod simulation using metal filters’, and ‘signals that people send to themselves unconsciously’. Each person drew a picture with the mouse pad. The pictures were in the third dimension using electromyography and motion, heart sensing using skin resistance, and racing games with control arms that were provided.
This year marks the 16th anniversary of this event. Pohang has held the event five times. Various programs, such as: the science experience program for elementary, middle school, and high school students, the robot completion, businesses and the R&D display center, the science hall, and musical performances were provided.
Audiences looked around at the Artificial Intelligence Robot Competition, the K-Future Experience Hall, the K-East Sea Rim Science Hall, and the K-Smart Valley Hall.
In the K-Future Experiencing Hall, future science was introduced with four topics; Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, 3D Imagination, and Robots, so audiences could experience what the future will be like. In the K-East Sea Rim Science Hall, people experienced Pohang’s R&D institutions: the Korean Institute of Robots and Convergence, and the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory. In the K-Smart Valley Hall, people saw promising small but strong promotions. In the Creative Science Hall the booths and displays were operated by sixteen science clubs from sixteen middle and high schools.
