September 7, Handong Global University (HGU) had the ‘Vision 2025’ service at Hyoam Chapel. Vision 2025 is the mid-term development plan that includes the future direction of Handong Global University up to 2025. President Chang shared ‘Vision 2025’ to the staff and students of Handong. 

President Soon-Heung Chang suggested changing the conventional slogan ‘Why not change the world’ to ‘Change the world, with love and wisdom’ as the slogan of Vision 2025.

The future direction of Handong Global University stresses the three characteristics of Handong:  Christianity, creative convergence, and being a “glocal” school. He also announced the core strategies such as balancing faith and life through spirituality, character education, strong vision for future careers, and converged education.

President Chang suggested changing the world through the top ten projects. The top projects are: the regional development project, the unified Korea project, the Africa project, the start-ups revitalization project, the smart financing project, the next-generation ICT project, and the next generation automobile and robot project.

President Chang introduced the character of Handong people, the foundation to realize the motto. He urged all of HGU to realize the five core competencies with spirituality, human character, and creativity. In particular, he stressed that students of HGU need to be have the creativity that is required in this era, inter-disciplinary convergence, and “glocal” competency that will change the world.

In addition, he said the ‘Free Semester System’ will be actively operated, revised as needed for a student-centered flexible academic structure, and strengthened as an on-site centered educational institution. Attracting more foreign students and faculty was presented. Establishing a transparent and stable financial structure was also presented.

Last, the future plan was announced introducing regional cooperative examples. Academy-industry projects will be promoted to nurture human talents to contribute to Pohang regional development. After remarks by the President, all the students, staff, and faculty prayed together and finished the service with the Handong logo song.
