August 12 to 13 the 2016 Parents' Prayer Meeting was held at Hyoam Chapel.
This retreat illuminated and testified to the life of Handong graduates from 1999 under the theme of 'Fruits of Handong'. Parents proved the love of God worked through the fruits of Handong and reaffirmed the calling of intercessory prayer.
The retreat started with the opening service by Pastor Junghun Choi who introduced and welcomed the parents. President Yoogang Choi gave a testimony of the 'Fruits of Handong.' A special lecture was given by professors. There was a meeting with the President of Handong. Many parents gave testimonials. Prayer was led by Pastor Wanjin Kim. Another testimonial was given by Jaewoo Shim. The missionary from NIBC, Pastor Jimin Back led the morning prayer time. The closing service was led by Pastor Jihoon Cho. There were meetings with professors of undergraduate school students as well.
The Parents' Prayer Meeting was started with thirty parents in 1996. At that time, they prayed to establish Handong on year later. The goal was to provide prayer support as HGU faced problems and to overcome conflicts in establishing HGU as well as to face theological and financial difficulties through prayer.
Now, regional prayer teams in 62 areas consistently raise intercessory prayer for HGU.
In particular, last June to July, prayer groups were established in New York and LA. Now the parents’ prayer meetings are spreading to the world.
The parenting prayer meetings are held regularly once or twice a month. Various activities are conducted such as support scholarships for needy students, internal activities, serving a meal on teacher's day, serving foreign students a meal, and briefing sessions.
Parents gathered under God’s name have served as a cornerstone to establish Handong Global University in the college culture.
