From July 24 to 30, 2016, Handong Global University will host the ‘Global Entrepreneurship Training, or GET’ at the Universidad Catolica San Pablo or ‘UCSP’ in Arequipa, Peru, in South America.
110 participants including local government officials, businessmen, professors, and students who prepared start-ups joined together. The program lasted for a week with collaboration from Handong Global University, local professors, coordinators, and student researchers.
GET is a program to nurture practical talents in the developing countries in accordance with HGU’s designation by UNESCO UNITWIN; University Twining and Networking in 2008. To date, about 2,500 graduates were nurtured in Korea, Kenya, Ghana, Laos, Peru, and other countries. This 17th program further strengthened the development capacity in the developing countries through awareness innovation. Economic development leaders were nurtured in the developing countries and local international businessmen.
GET 2016 provided lectures by local the university and Handong Global University. Every afternoon small groups of student practiced drafting business plans. The first day, the mindset of entrepreneurship was given by Professor Gihong Kim. After the lecture, group introductions and selections of business items occurred.
The second morning, Professor Gihong Kim delivered a creative innovation lecture and Professor Young Lee presented start-ups, financing and accounting information. In the afternoon, lectures on start-up businesses, as well as effective business plans and practices were provided.
On the third day, Professor Edward Purnell delivered a lecture on business law. Professor Paul Rodriguez presented a lecture on strategic planning and Professor Young Lee delivered a lecture on capital attraction. In the evening, communication and cultural exchange through the ‘Culture Night Program’, occurred.
On the fourth day, a Marketing lecture by Professor Ricardo Valdez and a Business Ethics lecture by Professor Edward Purnell were given. International Business information was provided by Professor Young Lee. The last portion of the day allowed time for business planning practice.
On the fifth day, business communication information was given by Professor Jose Luis Passano and Intellectual Property Rights information was presented by Edward Purnell. Practice time followed and on the last day of the program, project proposal completion was hosted.
After the GET program, Junior Entrepreneurship Training, or ‘JET’ will be held for 80 high school students of Peru, August 1 to 2. This is planned and hosted by HGU students and USCP student researchers. JET will provide a venue to experience entrepreneurship and business proposals to local high school students through various activities and lectures. JET will serve as an opportunity to think about the spirit of entrepreneurship and project planning through various activities and lectures prepared by the student researchers.
The GET program nurtured entrepreneurship with both universities and contributed to an economic prosperity cycle for the local community.
