Since the battle between baduk-playing software AlphaGo and the world's Go champion Lee Se-dol, machine learning, part of the artificial intelligence sector, has drawn attention. Machine learning is the core technology for analyzing big data by mimicking human-like learning ability at a computer. Machine learning and big data are drawing attention. In Korea, there have not been any successful cases commercializing these sectors in real-life applications.
Recently, Professor In-jung Kim and Hae-bong Choi of HGU were selected at the ‘2016 Big Data Utilization Smart Service Pilot Project’ with the theme ‘Big Data Deep Learning Technology Utilization for Smart T-Commerce Development’ hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.
They drafted and designed a system with WShopping to advance T-Commerce Service by using big data and deep learning technology. Professor In-jung Kim, from the School of Computer and Electronical Engineering said, “Last March, the National Information Society Agency publicized the big data pilot project. WShopping suggested we design a consortium. We drafted projects and were selected through a strict evaluation process. Six undergraduate school students and two professors joined together. According to Professor In-jung Kim, “The six excellent students did their best based on their academic expertise and the Capstone Project.”
The system had a 580 million won fund to establish a big data platform for storing and utilizing large-scale amounts of data. The information came from T-Commerce to predict products’ profits along a time line. They analyzed T-Commerce production data, T-Commerce User Meta Data, Order lists and action logs, broadcasting dates, day, and circumstantial factors (ex: weather) through deep learning and provided T-commerce optimal broadcasting. In addition, they developed T-commerce privatization curation service to promote customized products by considering each individual’s preferences.
Professor Kim said, “The designation was a great joy since many large conglomerates applied for this project. The competition rate was high. We wanted to make a success story in the machine learning and big data fields by cooperating with WShopping.”
