June 1, 2016, was the date of the opening event to celebrate the designation of the UN Depository Library of Handong Global University. This coincided with the June 1, the 66th UN NGO Conference. Director Maher Nasser of the United Nations Department of Public Information also was scheduled participate.
Congratulatory remarks were made by Director Maher Nasser and valedictory remarks were made by President Soon-heung Chang. There was a placard hanging ceremony of the UN Depository Library. The Library computers will make UN data available for student research.
According to the computerized data of the UN Library, documents, treaties, and publications of UN organizations such as the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the UN Security Council, will now be available online. The UN Depository Library computer installed at the HGU library is available to Handong students, other students and ordinary citizens.
The UN Depository Library or Dag Hammarskjold Library was established in 1946 and has served the role of managing and distributing publications. To date, the US Library has been operated in 360 places within 136 different countries.
Handong Global University is the host organization of the 66th UN NGO Conference and President Soon-heung Chang of Handong Global University planed and prepare this event as chair of this conference organizing committee.
※ Terminology
Dag Hammarskjold is a Swedish diplomat. He served as the UN Secretary General from 1953 to 1961 for two terms. He died in an unexpected accident during his post. To commemorate him, the US Library was name after him.
