-Handong Global University Hosted a Class for Parents in the Local Area every Wednesday of June
-The event will serve as a venue to establish proper childbearing perspectives regarding effective communication skills between parents and children
“I did not know this topic well. I was not born as a father from birth. For myself, this was the first time to be a father, so please tolerate me as a father.” This is what actor Dongil Seong, father of Bora, said in the popular soap drama in ‘Replay 1988’. The role of parents is important in order to raise children properly, but we don’t know how to act and or what to say.
Handong Global University hosted a Class for Parents every Wednesday in June at the Community Service Center located in Jangyangdong, Bukgu, Pohang. This lecture aimed to provide effective communication skills between parents and children and to establish proper childbearing.
The lectures have five themes. ‘Healthy Children and Parents’ on June 1, ‘How can I Help my Child with Their Addiction?’ on June 8, ‘Communication Skills’ on June 22, and ‘The Role of Parents depending on the Developmental Stage of Children’ on June 29. The lectures are provided by Professor Sookhee Jung, Professor Haejung Kim, Professor Jungmi Shin, Professor Sungman Shin of HGU and Junghoon Kim, counselor with the Korean Center on Gambling Problems.
According to Professor Sungman Shin of HGU, “The purpose of the event is to understand the life of parents as happy adults and to support parents so they can be prepared well in childrearing. Psychological understanding of the development of children and positive mutual responses between parents and children are closely related.”
The lectures were limited to forty people and the applicants needed to apply by May 31. Application was through Jangyangdong Community Service Center. The lectures were free with the support of the Student Union of CEO Course of Handong Global University.
The Life Long Education Center President Sungjun Kang mentioned, “We would like to contribute to the regional development by providing customized life-long education opportunities for local residents with excellent professors. Through highly qualified life-long education, the quality of local residents will be improved and close relationships will be established between regions and universities.
