On May 19, 2016, Handong Global University unveiled that the school was designated as a contributing college for higher education normalization for the third year in a row.
HGU will be funded with about US $70,770. The fund will be used to continue strengthening the capacity for college admissions, to support normalization of school education, to support student education activities, to conduct research for improvement of the college and to provide expenses for college admissions.
The Contributing College for Higher Education Normalization Project was initiated in 2014. The purpose was to streamline the college admission entrance process. In the past, the entrance criteria was based on educational courses from the high school curriculum. The goal was to lessen the burden on students and parents. This year, sixty universities will be supported to expand and operate high school linked activities to reflect the dreams and talents of students.
Handong Global University has been expanding the evaluation of transcripts of school records in order to streamline the university entrance process. In 2017, 83.1 % or 641 students of the students will be recruited under non-scheduled recruitments The other 16.9% or 130 students will be selected through scheduled recruitment.
Non-scheduled recruitment will evaluate a transcript of school records. Scheduled recruitment will consist of the college entrance exam. The lowest academic criteria has been abolished for scheduled recruitment.
In addition, 13.4% or 103 students will be selected from rural, fishery, and low income households. This is part of HGU exercising social responsibility. This will allow sixty students to be recruited from local human talents to nurture local human resources.
According to Duphil Kang, Dean of Admissions and Human Resource Development, “We will do our best to provide more opportunities for those who have dreams and talents through cooperation between high schools and universities. We will strengthen the fundamental foundation of university entrance centered on a transcript of high school records. We will do our best to contribute to the normalization of higher education through our college admission system.”
Handong Global University has been selected as part of the PRIME project. HGU received an ‘A’ grade in university structural innovation evaluation. The University was selected to join the CK Project, the ACE project, and the LINC project. HUG has been recognized as an education centered university by the Korean government.
