Handong Global University was designated as the Hub ‘2016 Educational Donation Center in Gyeongsang Province.’ The selection was made by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. The project aims to activate educational donations as well as develop and utilize educational donation resources by connecting human and material resources: universities, enterprises, public institutions, private organizations, and social organizations to youth in Gyeongsang Province.
The Educational Donation Center of Handong Global University in Gyeongsang Province was established in July 2014 at the Office of Academic and Industry Cooperation of HGU. The Center promoted the development of educational donations in Gyeongsang Province during 2014 and 2015. Customized educational donation programs were matched to individual schools.
The Center provides educational donation programs to youth in the area by developing specialized educational donation resources similar to programs in metropolitan areas. Briefing sessions and networking events provide effective educational donation from participants. In addition, the Center will host a briefing session and networking event to provide educational donation activities.
In particular, the 2016 project is designed to start a pilot school operated funded by resources from educational donations within local society. In addition, retired teachers within Gyeongsang Province will support activities by developing private educational donation resources.
The Head of the Center, Sookhee Jung said, “The designation of educational donation Center in Gyeongsang Province is our pleasure and honor. Based on our achievements with cooperative systems, we are planning to continue the network of educational donations. The educational donation programs will be transferred to the youth in Gyeongsang Province. We will do our best to revitalize educational donations in Gyeongsang Province.”
Since its establishment in 1995, HGU has been providing systemized and specialized character education based on the founding spirit of love, modesty and service. At the same time, for the activities to serve the local community, mandatory social service courses will be included in the liberal arts requirements for graduation.
