- HGU hosted a four day ‘Workshop on Appropriate Technology-Based Entrepreneurship’ in Kumi, Uganda
- The newly established Uganda Innovation Technology & Entrepreneurship Center is expected to serve as a hub to bring greater economic self-reliance to Uganda
On May 3, the Green Appropriate Technology Research Cooperation Center of Handong Global University established the Uganda Innovation Technology & Entrepreneurship Center (UITEC) at Kumi University, Uganda. At the ceremony the signboard was hung ceremony. For four days the Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training was held at this venue.
The workshop aimed to bring greater development of the local society of Uganda through appropriate technology based start-ups and dissemination of community based businesses. This initiative is part of the developing start-ups and supporting technology development operated by UNITWIN.

In this Appropriate Technology-based Entrepreneurship Training Workshop there were fifty-seven participants. Thirty-seven of the students were from Kumi University. Fifteen staff from the Kumi area NGO IDI and local residents also participated along with five professors of Kumi University. These people joined together and developed start-up items during this workshop to develop local businesses.

Handong Global University is planning to host annual an ATET Workshop through UITEC in order to support local people-led projects, businesses and to serve as the hub for economic self-reliance. Furthermore, HGU student interns will be dispatched from the free semester system to carry out joint research with students from Kumi University. In order to be dispatched HGU student interns will develop businesses and technical support with their guiding professors.
The ATET Workshop consisted of economic development of Korea; social Entrepreneurship; appropriate technology and businesses; development of business items; a business model-Zen canvas; and project planning. The training required skills or practical experiences from an area of business to survey the project’s feasibility.

Handong Global University has been constantly implementing projects supporting developing countries. The projects include: the Global Engineering Project, the Cooperative Project Supporting Science and Technology for the Developing Countries, the Global Engagement & Mobilization Initiatives, GEM, the Engineering Design Academy for the 90% Marginalized, the Creative Design Competition for the 90% Marginalized, the UNESCO UNITWIN program, and the Nepal Innovation Technology Hub Center.
