Keumwon Company donated 12 million won (about 12 thousand dollars) for foreign students of Handong International Law School. This is the second time this donation was given to HILS and six foreign students received the scholarship.

According the CEO, Kim Jin Hong, in the scholarship donating ceremony, “HGU has been nurturing global talents going beyond our region as one of the prestigious colleges in this area. I sincerely hope that the students will grow as international lawyers who are secured with international competency and a deep sense of responsibility.”

Mr. Sovatey Seang who received the scholarship for the consecutive two years mentioned, “With this scholarship, I can stay focused on my studies without the distraction of financial difficulties. After graduate law school, I want to be a person who shares love and comfort to those in need.”

The freshmen and six scholarship receivers are future talents who will play important roles as lawyers back to their countries. Many graduates of HILS are working at judicial corporations or local corporations of global companies. One goal of HGU, to nurture Korea friendly foreign human talents, is bearing a fruit.

Handong International Law School (HILS) was established in 2002 as an American style law school for the first time in Korea. Since its establishment, HILS has nurtured 298 lawyers in seven states in the USA. The successful candidate rate on the bar exam is over 71%. There are 51 freshmen this year. Six students of the new students or 12 % are foreigners. The foreign students of HILS came from Mongolia, Vietnam, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Canada.

The curriculum of HILS consists of American Law and International Law. It is taught completely in English. HILS is achieving great results in various mock court completions such as the International Negotiation Competition, the International Arbitration Moot, the WTO/FTA Mock Court, and the Humanitarian Law Competition. In particular, students of HILS achieved good results for consecutive two years, 2013 and 2014, at the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court co-hosted by the Korean Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
