On April 11, the President of HGU and also the President of the 4/14 Window Movement of Korea, Soon-heung Chang declared the ‘Vision for the Next-generation 4/14 Window Movement’ in ‘the 4/14 Window Forum’ which was held at the Torch Mission Center, Yanggae, Seoul.
He began the event by stressing the importance of the next generation, and the role of elders. He said the way to love God the most is to realize His love and deliver God’s love to neighbors. The best way to love a neighbor is to deliver the gospel, the word of life to a neighbor who is lost. Spreading the gospel is our given mission and the path we need to practice to show our love for God.
Second, he stressed the importance of the next generation. He said, “The young Christian ratio is 3 %. In every dimension, we need to recognize the crisis that our next generation will face and we need to put tremendous effort into reaching the next generation.”
Third, he added, “Many churches are operating various programs within churches. I hope we can also contact the marginalized areas. We need to take the role of salt and light through outside activities such as service and stewardship for non-believers. We must go beyond merely having relationships with believers within churches.”
Fourth, President Chang mentioned the necessity of seeking countermeasures to share the gospel. It is imperative to make good use of media and to explain the reality of the gospel to young people. “Many children born and raised in this era of postmodernism are likely to consider faith a light thing or they may never have been exposed to the gospel. This will lead to confusion about what genuine faith is. Therefore, I sincerely hope that the current situation and countermeasures that we suggested today will prime the pump to resolve these problems.”
Fifth, he uttered the necessity of establishing community networks between families, schools, churches, Christian organizations, and media related agencies. He cited Luke chapter 23 verses 27 to 28, “A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and your children.” He added that “By collaborating with families, schools, and churches, we need to overcome the challenges the next generation will face and seek countermeasures.”
President of HGU, Soon-heung Chang, was inaugurated as President of the 4/14 Window Movement of Korea. The ‘4/14 Window Movement’ is an initiative to restore the passion toward the gospel for youth from the ages of four to fourteen. This is a critical period to set the goals of life and to nurture the next Christian leaders who are secured with godly character and spirituality.
Other lectures during the forum were titled, ‘Challenges of the Media Culture for the Next Generation’ by Professor Jongbae Ahn, from Hansae University and the ‘Impact of Media on the 4/14 Window and Countermeasures for Churches and Families’ by Jongchun Jeon, from the Christian Life Center Media Training Movement.
