On April 5, 2016, HGU announced major plans and policies for 2018 College Admissions for current high school Juniors. HGU will recruit 771 new students. 651 students will be admitted through non-scheduled admissions (84.4%) and 120 students(15.6%) will be accepted through scheduled admissions.
Handong Global University has been accepting the Ministry of Education's streamlined policy as a specialized university in nurturing global creative and converged human talents. In non-scheduled admissions, a transcript of school records will be the criteria for admission. In scheduled admissions, the entrance exam will be the basis for admissions. In 2018, discussion and typical student government curriculum will not be implemented. The total model, allows 70% of the total recruitment to be selected. From all the admission types, the lowest scholastic ability test will not be applied.
Compared to 2017, the score application in Korean History and English will be changed, so the applicants need to be focused. In the scheduled admissions, HGU applied Korean history at the lowest level. However, in 2018, Korean history will not be applied as the lowest score and instead an additional score will be given. By adopting the absolute evaluation in English, four point gaps in each grade, based on 100 scores, will be reflected.
Regarding the changed criteria for college admission, Du-phil Kang said, “Since its foundation twenty years ago, HGU has been selecting freshman without requiring them to choose a major or department when they enter the school. Students select their double major depending on their talents and aptitude in their second year. This is based on the educational philosophy that believes when students study according to their interests, their potential and creativity will be realized. This enhances the possibility of success in higher education. In order to select the right students to attend HGU, HGU has been operating comprehensive admissions that meet the needs of the right students who will attend HGU, based on their talents."
The changed plans and policies for 2018 College Admissions will be approved and confirmed by the Korean Council for University Education and will be publicized on http://admissions.handong.edu.
