February 22, HGU held the 2016 Entrance Ceremony at Hyoam Chapel.
2500 people including faculty, freshmen, parents and President Soon-heung Chang participated.
Opening remarks were made by Dupil Kang, the Dean of Admissions and Human Resource Development. The ceremony proceeded with prayers, a message, a luncheon, a declaration by the freshmen, and singing the Blessing Song.
This year, 973 students including: 802 freshmen, 49 transferred students, and 122 graduate students entered Handong Global University.
Among them, 27.9% or 224 students were from Seoul, Gyeonggi Province. 20% or 160 students were from Daegu, Gyeongbuk Province. 12.2% or 98 students were from Busan, Kyeongnam, and Ulsan. 11.3% or 91 students were from Gwangju and Jolla Province. In addition, 14.3% or 115 students entered HGU from 107 high schools of 42 countries abroad.

President Chang mentioned, "I would like to stress three joys. 'The joys of this generation here today needs to be found and learned at Handong. Those are the 'joy of faith, the joy of learning, and the joy of love and service'. The three joys are your homework and the treasure that you need to find at Handong. I sincerely encourage you to become the students who give joy to Korea and the world.”

All the freshmen pledging to keep the ‘Honor Code of HGU.’
All the freshmen read and pledged to keep the ‘Honorary Code’ with these words, ‘The people of Handong have a sense of responsibility in every word and action.’ And ‘The people of Handong are honest and diligent in every area of academics and life.’
Insong Jung who led the oath said, “Handong Global University is the school that I really want to attend because of its academic and faith perspectives. I want to major in Management, International Law, and City Design. My dream is to be a businessman who supports the children of the developing countries who are studying under difficult situations.”

The theme for this entering class of students was the ‘Generation of Joy.’ Starting on February 26th, the freshmen joined HanST, (Handong Spiritual Training) for five days. Various lectures, recreation, introduction of schools, the Residential College system, and the honor declaration ceremony were provided for all the new students.
