18th Commencement Ceremony of HGU, Nurtured 1,009 bachelors, Masters, and Doctorates

The 18th Commencement Ceremony was held at Hyoam Chapel on February 19, 2016. In this ceremony, 3,000 participants attended including the first President of HGU, Young-gil Kim; the President of Pohang City Christian Council, Pastor Daewon Kim; the Vice President of the Parents’ Prayer Meeting, Songja Kim; and a Member of the of Board Directors of HGU, Sungman Lee; graduates, parents, and professors.
The event was started by the Chairman of the Board of HGU Directors, Bum-il Kim. There was an academic report, a message, the conferring of graduation certificates, congratulatory remarks by HGU’s President, and remarks by graduates. HGU nurtured 1,009 graduates including 852 bachelors, 156 masters, and one doctorate.
Every graduate came to the platform, shook hands with their professors and greeted them. Distinguished guests and parents who attended gave a big round of applause to bless the future of the graduates.

President Soon-heung Chang said, “The graduates of HGU are talents from God who have faith and learning. You are the people of Handong who will change the world. Use your hearts to share and your competency to share God’s love with your neighbors. Your competency is your skill in technology, your material possessions, and the talents you have. I will support and pray that all of you will take your places as Christian leaders who practice love everywhere.”

Solji Kang delivered remarks as the representative of the HGU graduates.
Solji Kang said, “Students who are learning at HGU, graduates of HGU, and people who pray for this school are closely connected as one community. Although we will leave physically now, we are forever included in the big HGU community. Because of this, I can face life after graduation. I am so thrilled that I can walk with you. I hope that we can meet with greater joy when we meet at the crossroads.”
Since its foundation in 1995, from the first graduates until now, 248 graduates have entered into graduate schools of medicine and dentistry, 56 graduates have entered a law school, 12 graduates have passed the Korean Law School Exam, 7 graduates have passed the Civil Service Examination, one graduate has passed the Foreign Service Examination, 6 graduates have passed the Certified Public Accountant test, and 29 graduates have passed the Patent Attorney exam. In addition, Handong International Law School has nurtured 298 American lawyers since its first graduates in 2004.
Including these graduates, HGU has nurtured 10,469 graduates from the undergraduate school, 1,519 graduates of the graduate school and four doctorates from the graduate school.
