The LINC Foundation was Declared a Vision for Industry-Academy Cooperation

 ‘The LINC Foundation Expo of Handong’ held a Vision Declaration at Philos Hotel, Pohang on February 18. 300 people attended including: President Soon-heung Chang, the Mayor of Pohang, Kangduck Lee; the Chairman of Pohang City Council, Chilgu Lee; businessmen, government officials, researchers, and students.

The Vision Declaration Ceremony was hosted to jumpstart the city of Pohang by working with academic entities, industry and the government to revive the local economy and to lead industry, culture and cooperation. This event included performances, the introduction of distinguished guests, academic-industry activities, a declaration of vision, special lectures, and congratulatory remarks.

Hyunggi Doh, Deputy Head of the LINC Foundation, declared the “21st Century is desperately waiting for new forms of creativity. Pohang will create the jumpstart.” He also declared three things: “First, we will actively participate in promoting the jumpstart of Pohang and revitalizing the local economy. Second, we will gather wisdom and common-sense to take the lead in Korea with research, development, industry, and culture. Third, we will create new cooperation opportunities and prosperity so every generation will be able to unite and work together.”

In his lecture, ‘Development Strategies of the New Growth Engine for the Creative City, Pohang’ President Soon-heung Chang said, “To be a creative and good city, Pohang needs to nurture both the cultural and industrial sector. I would like to stress global culture. It will make a huge impact if Pohang was considered a global city.” He stressed the importance of creative innovations to lead culture, embracing other cultures, and the culture of freedom. President Soon-heung Chang said, “I would like to stress the culture of learning. We need to learn for our lifetime, not just learn during the university years.” He also reiterated the culture of advanced science technology based on ICT and IoT.  
 
 President Chang explained about the necessity of new industry saying, “Conventional sales are decreasing so we need a new growth engine.” He suggested new industry with the following eight classifications: a Smart city, a smart home, a smart farm, smart healthcare, smart care, and drones. He particularly stressed culture and media content industries mentioning, “Those sectors have great potential. I hope that Pohang will be the central city of culture. The energy industry, laser projects, Fin-tech, next-generation shelters, clothing innovations, the food industry, and shared economy will serve as new industries.”

President Chang suggested a venue for cooperation between academy, industry, and government. Then, an exhibition place and a cultural complex would be needed. A design center and program for Pohang would ignite the city of Pohang. “We need to focus on resolving practical issues through academy and industry cooperation. HGU will work toward solving industrial problems with Pohang. Cultural exhibitions will change the image of Pohang to make it more warm and receptive to others. Also, I hope that we can create a global cooperation center. “
