Foundation of Globalization of HGU Hosted ‘Project Achievement Diffusion Forum’

Handong Global University unveiled that on February 17, the Foundation Nurturing Global Creative and Innovative Talents based on ICT hosted the ‘Internal Evaluation Meeting on HGU’s Globalization Project.‘ February 22, the ‘Forum Aims to Disseminate Achievements of HGU’s Globalization Project’ was hosted.

In the ‘Internal Evaluation Meeting on HGU’s Globalization Project,‘ distinguished professors participated and had an in-depth evaluation on the plans and achievements through 2015.

In attendance at the ‘Forum Aims to Disseminate Achievements of HGU’s Globalization Project’, distinguished guests included the former Minister of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs, Do-yeop Kwan; the former Director of the Public Relations Office, Kyeongheo Kim; the former Deputy Director of Donga Ilbo, Junwoo Ha; the Uzbekistan Ambassador, Wookhun Lee; a Professor of the Department of Sociology ofSeoul National University: Jaeyeol Lee, and Professor of Department of Management, Hanyang University, Sungmin Kim; and related guests from universities nationwide participated in this event. In this forum, the Foundation of Globalization of HGU was evaluated for the first time by the Foundation of CK Globalization, and the Ministry of Education. There was also a time to discuss the way to disseminate the achievements of HGU’s Globalization Project.

Handong Global University is the host university designated by UNESCO and the hub university for strengthening higher education of UN Academic Impact that was opened by the Secretary General of the UN, Ki-moon Ban. Based upon these international achievements, the Foundation of Globalization has been operating the ‘c-Lab Program for Onsite Oriented Projects.’ The Project was improved and developed by the ‘Global Engagement and Mobilization Project’ and was conferred by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. In addition, the Foundation hosted ‘Handong Around the Globe 2015’ to enhance interest in four continents including Asia, and Africa. This was to promote revitalization of mutual exchanges. In addition, foreign enterprise visiting programs and international organizations operated.

Last December, in order to strengthen multi-disciplinary convergence and converged thoughts in education, the former Minister of Education, Jaechun Kim was invited to HGU. He gave a ‘Workshop on University Education for Leading the Future.’
In July 2014, HGU has designated to become part of the CK Project hosted by the Ministry of Education. Global talents were nurtured to take the lead in globalization and creative innovation using ICT with the participation of the School of Management and Economics; the School of International Studies, Languages, and Literature; the School of Spatial Environment System Engineering; and the Graduate School of Global Development and Entrepreneurship.

The Foundation has been operating learning-centered projects and on-site visits, global entrepreneurship programs and experiences, international organizations, and regional research and practice programs in order to develop countermeasures by recognizing on-site problems.

※ Terminology
UNITWIN; The University Twining and Networking Project initiated in 1992 to minimize the knowledge gap by promoting networks between universities in developing countries and advanced countries and by nurturing self-reliance competencies in developing countries. HGU was designated as the host university of UNESCO UNITWIN in 2007. As of today, HGU has been supporting 49 universities from 26 developing countries.

UNAI, United Nations Academic Impact, is a global initiative by the UN Secretary General, Ki-moon Ban in order to bring about ‘peace’, ‘development,’ and ‘human rights protection;’ three pillars of the 2010 UN Charter. The UN and higher educational organizations are seeking to resolve global issues. Handong Global University was designated as the hub university in 2011 and re-designated in 2014.
