HGU Promoted 'Appropriate Technology Based Entrepreneurship Program' at Nepal

For five days from last January 27 to 31, 2016, Nepal Innovation Technology and Entrepreneurship Center, herein after refer to as NITEC, under the Handong Global University conducted Appropriate Technology based Entrepreneurship Training, ATET.

In this program, eighteen teams consists of professors and students of Pokara University, and one hundred local residents joined and competed technology based project models and finally eighty one students were completed the course. The each team develops appropriate technology item that is required in Nepal and develop project idea and make as idea which will be used for projects.

Experts consist of professors and researchers of Handong Global University, offered a focused mentoring on technology and project development.

In addition, economic development growth and entrepreneurship of Korea, appropriate technology, business, technology-based start-ups were delivered during the lectures.

Business experiences and know-hows were shared by entrepreneurs of Nepal who operates appropriate technology projects in Nepal.

Each team reviewed feasibility and possibility of the selected research team and practiced business model. 

Participants proposed eighteen research development projects such as commercialization of technology development extracts local specialty such as wild herbs from Himalaya and plants resources, development of small hydro power technology, dissemination manufacturer, dissemination of biogas products using animal waste and living waste, automatization system that controls water level of water tank, and development of machines for textile.

The participants had a time to present their project models and plans that they drafted for five days and four nights.

The examiners consist of professor and researcher of HGU, and business experts evaluated the outcomes based on technology feasibility, marketability, innovativeness, and ripple effect at first.

The final evaluation will be changed by the expert professors based on the results and the final team will be selected and fund for developing projects will be funded.

The participants of programs said, "It was very fresh and unique to develop new project model. It was very useful to draw independence by developing new requirements and model.

The professor of Pokara University said, "I hope that this kind of opportunities will be provided to other students."
 "I hope that the same program will be delivered not only for Pokara University but also for other areas for successfully technology based business model."


NITEC will host ATET program for twice a year and Pokara University will serve as a hub. ATET program will be provided by working with Pokara nearby university and NGOs.

NITEC was opened in this January for the third time followed by Cambodia and Laos as an appropriate science technology hub center and as part of science technology support projects for the developing countries under the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning.

This center will be operated for four years from July 2015 to June 2019 and Pokara University will serve as a hub center.

Solar power, small hydro power, and processing sector of the local specialty that are appropriate technology will be developed and technology based regional start-ups will be supported and poverty eradication of local residents and sustainable infrastructure of economic development will be made.
