From May 30 to June 1, 2016, the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN DPI) NGO conference will be held in South Korea. This year commemorates sixty-six years of this annual event hosted by the UN. It is a venue to discuss cooperative measures with global NGO workers. 2,000 NGO related staff gathered to focus on Global Citizenship Education.
HGU, the Korea NPO Joint Commission, the UN Academic Impact, and Dream Touch for All prepared the event. The organizing committee was initiated January 7 and Soon-heung Chang, President of HGU, was designated as the Chairman of the Organizing committee.
President Soon-heung Chang said, "It was our great pleasure and honor to host this event in Korea for the first time in Asia at this critical juncture of 2016. The United Nations declared that from 2016 to 2030 they will implement the Sustainable Development Goals. I sincerely hope that Korea's advanced citizenship will be introduced to the global arena and further developed through this event."
The organizing committee designated Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongju as sites for the event. The UN delegation visited Korea from Jan. 17 to 21. The delegation had a courtesy call with the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, the Chairman of the local government, the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representative NGOs, and visited the host cities.
