The Aventura Team of HGU Received an Award from the Chairman of the Korean Association for ICT Promotion at ‘Big Contest 2015’

On November 13, 2015, The Aventura Team, consisting of undergraduate students from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at HGU received an award from the Chairman of the Korean Association for ICT Promotion. The prize included 2 million won ($2,000) at the ‘Big Contest 2015’ showcase which was held at L Tower, in Seoul. The Aventura Team was a capstone team guided by Professor Injung Kim of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, at HGU. The prize winners were Euisung Kim, Yohan Lee, Gihyun Na, and Hangyeol Sun. 




This year marks the third anniversary of this event. It aims to revitalize big data and enhance industrial competitiveness. It was hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the Korea Big Data Alliance. It was organized by the Korean Association for ICT Promotion, the National Information Society Agency, the Software Policy Research Institute, and KT. 

This competition proceeded with practical problems that needed practical resolutions. The competition required participants to predict the size of the audience for each Korean Baseball Championship and to making ranking predictions. Based on the big data analyzation tool of the Korean Baseball Championship from 406 participating teams, 18 teams were selected for the first round and then 14 teams were selected at the second evaluation. 

Student Kihyun Na said, “I am happy to receive this result right after studying machine parts. This is more meaningful since there was no team to a prediction model in the electronics major.”

Professor Injung Kim of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, at HGU, said, “Unlike a general contest, this contest required academic depth in the core technology sector and practical application competency. The competition was intense but as an undergraduate school student we achieved a great result.”
