Joonho Yang, from the School of Mechanical Control Engineering’s paper on Increasing the Efficiency of Turbo-electric Generators by Utilizing the Electrostatic Effect was published at Waste Energy Harvesting of Energies, an SCI level international journal.

The undergraduate student from the School of Mechanical Control Engineering published his paper in an international journal that is world-renowned in the energy technology field.

Under the supervision of Professor Jaeyoung Lee, from the School of Mechanical Control Engineering, Junho Yang conducted research on Increasing the Efficiency of Turbo-electric Generators by Utilizing the Electrostatic Effect followed by Professor Younggun Kim and last November, at Waste Energy Harvesting of Energies, his paper was published.

The research was conducted with the support of the convergence research program for undergraduate students.

The research suggested a way to perform surface treatments using 3D printers to create and improvement in power output for Turbo-electric generators. This is new method is attracting remarkable interest in the field of energy harvesting. Compared to conventional research, this student created a more economic and simple method making it possibile to create mass production of friction generators.

Professor Jaeyoung Lee, Head of the CK1 Project and was the supervising professor. He said, “I am so proud of the student who overcame many challenges by believing the guiding professor, even though he did not have enough research experience as an undergraduate student. The micro energy that is around us will be the core technology to open a new future in the objective internet so we will do our best to develop it more intensively.”

Professor Younggun Kim who participated in the research said, “This research is very significant since this opened a chance to produce friction generators based on a harvesting system that stores wasted energy,”

Junho Yang, who achieved the result said, “This experience was very meaningful because we had a chance to deeply understand research methods and analysis in preparation for graduate school entrance. My thanks go to Sungbo Shim and Sungyun Kim who conducted research together and also Professor Younggun kim and Jaeyoung Lee encouraged me a lot. Finally, I would like express my deepest gratitude to the CK1 Project and the School of Mechanical Control Engineering for supporting the research with funds.

Handong Global University was designated as the ‘Gyungbuk East Sea Sustainable Converged Human Resource in Energy·Environment·Law as a regional strategic form by the Ministry of Education and National Research Foundation of Korea. The CK1 Project has been operating programs to support undergraduate students strengthening their research capacities and reliable research models.
