-Five teams received the prize including a team called ‘But You’re Actual’ who developed a fairy tale application for enhancing empathic abilities in people.
Handong Global University hosted the 3rd Start-ups Competition on November 28, 2015
The first Competition raised interest and challenged start-ups to develop like gazelles. These enterprises changed the world for the students and alumni of HGU. The second Competition was called “RPM: Revolutions Per Minute” meaning: bring innovation during the presentation time to attract investments. This year marks the third Competition.
Fourteen teams delivered speeches. There was an evaluator speech, an audition evaluation round, a networking party, a blue-chip vote, a judge’s round, an awards ceremony, a general review, and a closing ceremony. One special presentation was given by prize winners from the second competition who visited Silicon Valley and Shanghai.
This competition was hosted by 60mph and organized by the Start-up Supportive Office of the Foundation of LINC. In addition, Gyungbuk Creation and Innovation Center and the Foundation of LINC worked together.
The Panel consisted of Mr. Hynsu Lee, Head of KIC Silicon Valley Center; Mr. Dongwon Shin, Representative of Neofly China; Prof. Sunghoon, Inha Univsity; Mr. Hakju Kim, Representative of Kim Hakju Research; and Mr. Iksung Jin, Head of Gyungbuk Creative Economy Innovation Center.
Among the final fourteen teams, four teams: But You’re Actual, MEDICONG, Oh-new!, and Gojipjaengedul, were granted prizes.
The prize winners will experience an internship, start-ups, and attract investors in Silicon Valley, Shanghai, China and Israel. They will also receive a round-trip airplane ticket, accommodations, an office, and living expenses. In addition, the dispatching period will be connected to the free semester system allowing students to recognize these experiences as academic credits.
Judge Sunghoon Lim asked, “What motivated you to develop this item?” The ‘But You’re Actual’ team said “In my childhood, I suffered from some symptoms of autism when I was a child and I thought that this item was desperately needed.”
The ‘But You’re Actual’ team said, “This enterprise creates a fairy tale for autistic children who comprise less than 1% of the world. Through RPM, the message was partially delivered. It is very hard to read people’s minds and to express feelings. People with autism are special so I will do my best to support their social development.”
At his closing remarks, President Chang said, “I would like to express my thanks to all the participants, and panels members. Also, my thanks go to the five prize winners who received awards for their new idea. I want to encourage all the people who participated in this competition. I hope that whenever you face failure, you will not be frustrated in innovating. Keep following your new path and initiate gazelle-like enterprises and keep creating new valuable items.”
