Students from HGU Won at the East Asian Regional Rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition

Five students from the School of Law at Handong Global University, Younggwang Lee, Sujung Kim, Junghyung Kim, Sangchan Lee, and Yoseup Lee. They received the news of their all-around victory at the Fourth East Asian Regional Rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition.
From November 24 to 38, 2015, at Soongsil University College of Law, in Seoul, Korea, the Fourth East Asian Regional Rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition was held. Five students: Younggwang Lee, Sujung Kim, Junghyung Kim, Sangchan Lee, and Yoseup Lee, from the School of Law at Handong Global University won the all-around championship. Younggwang Lee received an award for the best oral argument.
The East Asian Regional Rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition is considered the most authoritative competition in the environmental law related mock court, in the East Asian region. This year the competition was between 40 students on 12 teams from five countries: Nepal, China, Taipei, Mongolia and Korea.
The final round of the International Competition will be hosted in March, 2016 at Stetson University located in Tampa, Florida, in the U.S.A. HGU will participate in the final competition as the representative team from East Asia.
The theme of the competition was 'Cultural Property and the Protection of Elephants.' The participants dealt with international laws, precedents, and trends of international trading for animals and plants that are endangered, near extinction, have immunity, and have cultural property protection.
Younggwang Lee said, "Personally I participated in this competition to learn international law related to the environment. I am so glad that I received an unexpected prize. The oral statement practice sessions with the faculty of the School of Law, and members of the International Law Moot Court Club gave excellent practice. This helped me gain experience and helped me participate with excellence in the International Humanitarian Mock Law Competition. "
According to Prof. Seoyoung Lee, from the Foundation of LINC, at HGU, "The result these students achieved on an international competition was significant. The Foundation of LINC aims to nurture converged talents in the fields of energy and the environment. For two consecutive years, students from HGU have been achieving excellent results. I am so proud of the students of HGU,"
The prize winners have been promoting research on the targeted theme supported by the convergence research program for undergraduate students. The research was implemented by the Foundation Nurturing Converged Talents in the Fields of Sustainable Energy and the Environment in the East Sea.
Handong Global University was designated as a place that Nurtures Converged Talents in the Fields of Sustainable Energy and Environment in the East Sea Project in the Regional Strategic Forum by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The Foundation operates their research model centered around the undergraduate school and promotes research projects. In particular, the ESTC, Eco-Social Technology Center provides various types of support to nurture talented students with problem-solving competency in engineering and law.
