-As of this year, HILS has nurtured 29 US attorneys
Nine graduates of Handong International Law School passed the bar exam in Washington D.C. to become U.S. attorneys in July, 2015. The bar exam is held twice a year in February and July. Twenty-nine HILS graduates have passed the BAR exam to be become US attorneys.
According to the data released by the Washington D.C. Attorney Exam Association, the average passing rate of candidates taking the Attorney Exam in Washington D.C. is about 39.1%. The rate is a little bit lower compared to the exam which took place last year. This testifies to the higher level of difficulty of the exam. The total accumulated passing rate of HILS is over 70% out of the total number of graduates. This remarkable result shows that HILS is one of the prestigious law schools and its competency is high compare to other top-class law schools in the U.S.
HILS was established in 2002 as the first American style law school in South Korea and as of today, 294 graduates of HILS have become US attorneys in seven States. HILS has been growing a reputation as a prestigious law school in the field of international law.
All the faculty of HILS consist of experienced U.S. attorneys. All the curriculum is similar to the American law school style and delivered 100% in English. During their time at HILS, students are required to experience internships at various governmental organizations such as the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, the Supreme Court of Korea, Law firms in South Korea and abroad, private enterprises, and NGOs. By doing so, the students of HILS learn academic professional knowledge but at the same time, they nurture their practical working skills on-site.
Recently, HILS has not only nurtured US attorneys but has also nurtured international attorneys. Some graduates have acquired law credentials in India, New Zealand, and Australia through their completion of the required educational courses in the local area and the local exam processes.
