The Inauguration Ceremony of the Foundation for Leading Academy and Industry Cooperation

On November 10, HGU had the inauguration ceremony of the Foundation for Leading Academy and Industry Cooperation at All Nations Hall.
Participants in this event were: the Mayor of Pohang, Gangduk Lee; Congressman, Byungseok Lee; Vice Governor of Gyungbuk Economic Affairs, Byungyoon Jung; Vice Chairman of Pohang City Council, Seunghun Park; the President of the Gyungbuk Chamber of Commerce & Industry; and Ki-hong Kim, President of the Pohang Techno Park, and related distinguished guests from various fields.
Handong Global University was designated as the ‘Nurturing Leading University in Academic and Industry Cooperation Project’ last May. HGU created and disseminated various kinds of models in academic and industry cooperation. In addition, beginning last June, HGU held workshops for local businesses and concluded agreements with family companies.
The ceremony was held with a tape cutting. The celebration included a performance by the team, ‘Love Trilogy Youth’ of Handong. The team showed creative musical talent. The master of ceremonies was Pohang MBC announcer, Haekyung Chang.
In his remarks, President Chang reiterated, “Through the tireless efforts of HGU professors and staff, we have this meaningful inauguration ceremony. HGU will create a successful academic and industry cooperation model centered around the Foundation. This will nurture excellent talents and will serve as a driving force for the development of Pohang.”
At the ‘Current Status and Introduction of the Link Project’, the Head of the Foundation, Kiseuk Kim delivered the presentation ‘Establishing an Ecosystem between Academy and Industry from Pohang to the Global Stage.’ He said, “The vision of our Foundation is to create a new model that addresses regional issues and provides a global entrance at the same time. We will bring tangible outcomes to the citizens of Pohang with the internet and Information & Communication technology.”
In his remarks, the Mayor of Pohang, said, “This is very stimulating because the local university is trying to take the lead in local society. The Foundation will create new jobs for youth and will strengthen the competitiveness of local enterprise. The Foundation will also affect venture industry and lead the local economy.”
The Vice Governor of Gyungbuk Economic Affairs, Byungyoon Jung, said in his remarks, “I hope that the designation of the Foundation will serve as a venue to jump-start the local economy once again. On behalf of Gyungbuk Province, I would like to promise that we will support the Foundation. “
In his remarks, Congressman Byungseok Lee said, “Universities and businesses need to build a relationship to bring stimulation to each other by interacting together. I hope that the specialized educational curriculum will serve as a venue to bring development to the local economy. “
In his congratulatory remarks, the Vice Chairman of Pohang City Council said, “At Pohang Techno Park, objective internet and ICT projects are actively promoted. When we work together with HGU, we will bring a synergy effect.”
At the ‘Performance of Link Living Tree’, all the participants hung their wishes and dreams for the development of link projects on a tree. The Foundation is drawing attention from the local economy. It is expected to be the model of symbiosis by forming an organic community between residents, businesses, and the University.”
