The Best Research Paper Prize Was Conferred to Two Graduate Students from HGU

From the Graduate school of the Department of Psychology, Junyoung Park and Harim Lee received the best research paper prize in the student sector by the World Congress of the World Federation for Mental Health, in Singapore. The congress was held from October 1 to 3, 2015, co-hosted by the World Federation for Mental Health and Raffles College.

Under the theme of ‘Innovations in Mental Healthcare through Holistic Interventions in the Asia-Pacific Region’, the two students submitted a paper titled ‘Spiritual Well-being, Addiction, and Adaptation of University Students through Holistic Intervention.’ The best research paper prize is divided into two parts: students and experts. The prize is considered the best award in each sector. There were various countries’ mental health related fields and departments including medical schools, the department of Psychology, and the Department of Social Welfare used to evaluate the papers.

Professor Sungman Shin and Sookhee Jung, from the School of Counseling Psychology and Social Welfare guided the two students. Junyoung Park majored in Counseling Psychology and Industrial Design and Harim Lee majored in Counseling Psychology and Social Welfare.

Junyoung Park unveiled that “Addiction and spirituality are the common ground of the two professors who inspired us. I would like to express my appreciation to our professors who taught us patiently.”

Harim Lee reiterated, “In the course of considering the relationship between Psychological mechanisms, problems, spirituality and its application to treatment, we developed an idea for this research. Now, we have received awards and we are so grateful.”

The World Federation for Mental Health was founded in 1948 to promote mental health in more than 100 countries of the six continents. The Federation has been providing for the prevention and treatment of mental and emotional disorders, and promoting research activities. The Federation has designated October 10 as the World Mental Health Day and has taken the lead to minimize prejudice related to mental health issues by providing proper knowledge.
