The 3rd Start-up Competition was Held and Five Prize Winners Were Dispatched Abroad

On November 28, 2015, at All Nations Auditorium, ‘The 3rd Revolutions Per Minute, RPM’ was hosted. The title means ‘To raise revolutions during the investment explanations and presentation periods.’

This competition was held for enrolled students and alumni of HGU. The focus was on start-ups for enrolled students and alumni of HGU. It was hoped the event would raise interest, challenge, and develop Gazelle-type enterprises to change the world.

The event included the opening ceremony, the final performance, previous internship reports from Silicon Valley, in the U.S; and Shanghai, China; the awards ceremony, final comments, and closing remarks. The competition evaluations came from the audience and judges. The final result was calculated and five teams were selected.

The competition was hosted by 60mph, organized by the Incubation Center of the Foundation of the Academy and Industry Cooperation, HGU, and supported by Gyungbuk Creative Economy Creative Center, and the Foundation of LINC. The prize winners are like-gazelles that rapidly responding to any changes. Gazelles can reach the maximum speed of 60mph. The Group, 60mph, plans and hosts RPM every semester.

Theses external examiners were in attendance: Lee Hun-soo, Silicon Valley Center Manager of KIC; Dongwon Shin, Representative of Start-upX; Seunghoon Lim, Professor of Inha University; Hakju Kim, Representative of Hakju Kim Research; Ikseung Jin, Head of Gyungbuk Creative Economy Innovation Center.

The five prize winners received an opportunity to experience an internship for three months in Silicon Valley, Shanghai, and Israel, round-trip airfare, accommodations, office space, and living expenses. In addition, during the dispatching period, if students want to recognize their credits, the credits will beconnected to the free semester system.

President Soon Heung Chang said, “I hope that students will challenge themselves with limitless creativity, imagination, and with courage in order to create new values. I believe that if they fail many times, they will finally succeed. I hope that they will learn through failure.”

In November, 2015, HGU dispatched the five prize winners of ‘The 1st Handong Startup Competition’ to Silicon Valley for three months. Mr. Hyunseok Kim received the grand prize with his ‘Knee Rehabilitation Monitoring Device’ at the start-ups competition by utilizing defense technology. The representatives that received prizes at the second RPM had a time to share their experiences in the local area. After receiving the awards, they focused on helping the start-ups to grow and reach various achievements.

Fourteen teams will present their ideas and compete at the 3rd RPM.
