HGU Will Host a Forum on Same Sex Marriage and the Challenges of Korean Churches

November 14, 2015, at HGU, a Forum on Same Sex Marriage and the Challenges of Korean Churches was held by the Office of Academics and Faith Research Institute and the Korea Association for Christian Scholarship.

The US Supreme Court ruled in June that bans on same-sex marriage were unconstitutional and recently, in Korea, many voices are calling for legalization to allow same-sex marriage to be performed in court. It is not an overestimate to say same-sex marriage threatens society and South Korea’s foundation. It is an abomination to God who established marriage between males and females when He created the world. Marriage between a man and a woman reflects of kingdom of God.

Homosexual relationships have existed for thousands of years. However, the history of same sex marriage is only twenty to thirty years old. The ripple effect of legalizing same-sex marriages will have a huge impact on Korean society, churches, and education if the nation legitimizes homosexual relationships. 

On this important issue, the forum was hosted on Same Sex Marriage and the Challenges of Korean Churches. The forum was designed to explain the responsibilities of Christian scholars.

This forum focused on countermeasures against legalizing Same Sex Marriage from the following perspectives: counselling, the media and science. Core group discussions with experts were held the first session and in the afternoon session paper presentations and a comprehensive forum was  held.

During the paper presentation, eight papers in theology, ethics, science, law, counselling, and worldview were presented. With this opportunity, experts in each field promoted countermeasures and new cooperative efforts continuously.
