“Happiness of one thousand won”

Early on October 22, the HGU cafeteria was full of students who were trying to have breakfast. Just after seven thirty, the time when the cafeteria begins food distribution, an unusually long line was made compared to the usual 30 students. Juae Shin, a nearby resident said, “I live alone so sometimes I miss breakfast. I am here to eat breakfast because today the cafeteria offers breakfast for just with one thousand won.”

From that day, HGU has provided breakfast for 2,800 won to 1,000 won as part of the “Happiness of one thousand won” event to encourage students during mid-terms.

The President of Student Union, Jae-ho Shin, mentioned, “This event lowers the number of students skipping breakfast and starving. These lower rates for the meals enhance the health and welfare of HGU students who study late into the night preparing for exams. “ This event was held from October 19 to 23, from seven thirty to eight thirty in the morning.

The “Happiness of one thousand won” was planned by President Chang, Shinsegae Food, and the Student Union for the students who are studying hard during the mid-term period. The President of HGU and Shinsegae Food will burden the 1,800 in half. The related staff of Shinsegae Food said, “220 more students had breakfast last Monday compared to last year!”

Since his inauguration, during the mid-term period each semester, President Chang has been offering some snacks (cookies or rice burgers) to encourage students with his own money. This semester, he funded the “Happiness of one thousand won” project.

President Chang said, “I hope that students can feel the positive physical changes of rising up early in the morning. Students can feel frustration or stress during the exam period, but I hope that I can give them love through this tangible meal so that they can feel they are receiving love. I am happy to see that many students participated. “
