HGU Hosted ‘Handong around the Globe 2015’-African Week

A special lecture by Mr. Mesfin Midekssa, Minister Counsellor from the Ethiopian Embassy


From October 15 to 16, 2015, HGU successfully hosted ‘Handong around the Globe 2015’-African Week.

“Handong around the Globe 2015" is a four week forum held to focus on four continents: Africa, Asia, America, and Europe. The forum aims to raise global awareness and interest of the Handong faculty, staff, and students. These experiences introduce them to the numerous globalization projects run by Handong Global University, co-hosted by ‘the Foundation to Nurture Global Creative Human Resources based on ICT’, the ‘Foundation of UNESCO UNITWIN’, and the Office of International Affairs at HGU.

In his congratulatory speech, President Chang said, “I hope this event will serve as a venue to find our vision for the African continent by further strengthening fundamentals of the Foundation of UNESCO UNITWIN, and the Office of International Affairs at HGU through this event. In addition, as part of the top ten projects to change the world, HGU will initiate the Africa project in order to resolve water shortages, public health problems, and poverty . HGU desired to support sustainable development of Africa.

On October 15 of Africa week, Mesfin MIDEKSSA, Minister Counsellor from the Ethiopian Embassy delivered a special lecture. The next day, Ohseok HYUN, Former Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Strategy and Finance presented a special lecture.

Photo exhibitions and promotion booths were displayed by HGU African students. They introduced projects within the African continent, displayed costumes from various African countries, African accessories, and African culture. 





The special lecture by the former Deputy Prime Minister.
 
On October 16, a special lecture was followed by the former Deputy Prime Minister. He suggested countermeasures for Korea’s constant growth with major trends of the global economy from a political perspective. He defined South Korea’s economy as “An economy without basis, a growth engine that is withering, an imbalance between sectors, and a shortage of actions and results.

During the event, Global i-Creatinnovation Mobilization projects team, consisting of five students delivered a presentation. The presenter Sunyoung Hwang said, “We are learning the way to resolve global issues by joining Global i-Creatinnovation Mobilization projects with professors, students, and experts from various fields.

The “Handong around the Globe 2015-Asia Week” was co-hosted with Hannam University on October 29, 2015.  The various programs included an introduction to the activities of HILS within Asia and special lectures by the former Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The Foundation of UNESCO UNITWIN shared a joint education course, green appropriate technology development and distribution projects, accumulation and publication of open educational resources and open courseware, and presented activities all over Asia centered around global entrepreneurship training projects.
